According to Morningstar’s recent article, SSgA has filed with the SEC to introduce 16 new international ETFs. These include the following:

SPDR S&P Asia Pacific ETF
SPDR S&P Asia Pacific Emerging ETF
SPDR S&P China ETF
SPDR S&P Emerging Markets ETF
SPDR S&P EPAC ETF
SPDR S&P Europe ETF
SPDR S&P European Emerging ETF
SPDR S&P Latin America ETF
SPDR S&P Middle East & Africa ETF
SPDR S&P World (ex-US) ETF
SPDR S&P World (ex-US) Small Cap ETF
streetTRACKS DJ Wilshire Global (ex-US) Real Estate ETF
streetTRACKS Macquarie Global Infrastructure 100 ETF
streetTRACKS MSCI ACWI (ex-US) ETF
streetTRACKS Russell/Nomura PRIME Japan ETF
streetTRACKS Russell/Nomura Small Cap Japan ETF

Of particular interest to me are the SPDR S&P World (ex-US) Small Cap ETF and DJ Wilshire Global (ex-US) Real Estate ETF. Hopefully these are ‘true’ index funds, have low expenses and have reasonably good trading volumes. The related Diehard discussion # is 52949.

Stumble it!

Interesting. If S&P is the S&P Citigroup indices, tben the composition is a bit different from MSCI. e.g. South Korea is developed market in S&P, while it is emerging market in MSCI.

I think SPDR S&P World (ex-US) Small Cap ETF (read:World) refers to developed market ex-US small cap and does not include emerging market small cap. “Global” in S&P is the one that includes emerging market.

Hmm, I did not dig further into this issue. I guess we will know when the ETFs are officially launched. At that time, we can decide if the ETFs are viable or not.
