Swensen Tops Harvard Again

According to Bloomberg, David Swensen, the investment chief of Yale University’s $18 billion endowment fund and author of the book “Unconventional Success”, has outperformed Harvard’s investment returns in fiscal year 2006, posting a 22.9 percent return on gains from hedge funds and stocks outside the U.S. He has also outpaced the S&P 500 index that returned 8.6 precent in the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006.

As of June 2005, The endowment fund’s allocation was

  • 25% Hedge funds
  • 25% Assets, including real estate, timber, and energy
  • 17% Private equity
  • 28% Stocks
  • 5% Bonds
