October 2006 had been a good month for equities in general. My portfolio of 70/30 (equity/fixed income) gained an overall of 3.58% to give a year-to-date return of 12.82%.

In terms of individual asset classes, the precious metals and mining fund had the largest gain for the month, making a modest recovery. U.S. REITs (VGSIX) and emerging markets equity (VWO) were the next two best performers.
