Portfolio return for August 2007

My portfolio return for August 2007 was 0.56%. This return lags my benchmark, mainly because of my higher dosage of international equities. International equities underperformed U.S. equities as a whole for the month.

Equity prices for emerging markets, precious metals and mining companies and international small-caps were highly volatile, dropping 10% or more in the middle of the month before recovering. These represented very good rebalancing opportunities. U.S. equities were essentially flat and U.S. REITs had a huge comeback of more than 6% after the ~8% fall last month.
